DronesBench index (IDB)
The IDB (DronesBench Index) indicates the grams heaved by one watt of electric power used. It is a number that sums up the optimal performance of the whole propulsion system of the drone.
Therefore, significant decreases reveal hidden defects, levelled by the control-board. The IDB measurement is a preventive tool to check the safety of the mission.
The IDB makes it possible to evaluate the technical design of the drone. In other words, the IDB value represents the energy efficiency of the propulsion system of the drone. This determines the energetic class of the drone, so the customer can better evaluate his own purchase, like all other technological devices.
Obviously, it cannot be the manufacturer itself to prove the drone’s IDB. As for all technological devices, it is necessary to obtain the certification from an impartial external technician who is authorized to issue a certificate confirming the actual technical parameters measured.
Under current EEC legislation, the manufacturer is obliged to attach on the aircraft a plate containing, in addition to the CE mark and the identification data, the technical parameters above mentioned.
Moreover, since July 2016 the Italian Civil Aviation Authority has imposed a partial adoption of EEC directive regarding the plates of electromechanical devices, which obliges the manufacturers to include the technical parameters on the drone’s license plate.
Our plate (see beside) – which altogether with the technical parameters includes the IDB - allows:

- the manufacturers to comply with current EEC regulations that permits their products to fly in Europe, with a high profile standard identifier of the product, including the QR code.
- the consumers to get accurate information that facilitates the evaluation process prior to the purchase of the drone.

- the operators and the pilots to verify the correct functionality of the drone at any time of its life, simply by comparing the IDB value printed on the plate with the actual value measured.
In the light of the aspects described above and in the context of drones market - which is growing exponentially around the world - it is obvious that the figure of a "professional certificator" will be increasingly requested.
In this perspective, our company is moving towards the training of "certificators" who are able to carry out and understand the measurements on drones. In fact, our company is organizing courses to train these new professionals qualified to issue the certificates.
